When teeth are severely crooked, metal braces are the best option to bring them into alignment and improve your oral health. Fortunately, orthodontic care has greatly advanced and thanks to social media, children and young people are more accepting of treatment. We are proud to offer metal braces at Central Coast Orthodontics and stand ready to correct teeth misalignment and bite issues for you and your family.

Why Use Metal Brace?

Metal Braces in Gosford Erina Central Coast-Central Coast Orthodontics
Modern metal braces are more advanced than in the past and are the most effective solution for treating extreme malocclusions. The brackets on today’s braces are smaller and less noticeable and even incorporate the latest technology of heat-activated archwires that use your own body heat to quickly move teeth into place with less discomfort. We use metal braces to treat extreme overcrowding, as they allow the orthodontist more control over teeth movement than other treatments.
The following are some dental concerns that we treat with metal braces here at Central Coast Orthodontics at both Gosford and Erina:
Malocclusions or crooked teeth

Gapped teeth, or too much space between teeth

Overbites and underbites to help lower the risk of future oral health issues

Crossbites to relieve discomfort
Open bites
We can also use coloured bands so you can get creative with your braces, which is a favourite amongst young patients. Our team of skilled orthodontists will diagnose you or your child’s situation and work with you to find the ideal treatment for your needs.

Benefits of Early Orthodontic Treatment

Benefits of Early Orthodontic Treatment

Most children receive orthodontic treatment and braces around the ages of 11 – 14 years. Our goal is to work with our young patients and help teach them the importance of oral health care to maintain a healthy smile.

And we know how important it is for children to be able to smile without worrying about how their teeth look. In addition, treating children at a younger age is easier for the child because the bones are softer and more pliable, meaning teeth more easily move into place.

Children are not our only orthodontic patients, as some adults require metal braces, too. We actively treat patients even in their golden years. Thanks to modern metal braces being less noticeable and more comfortable, more adults are willing to use this option to align their teeth as well.

Caring for Metal Braces

Full treatment time with metal braces generally takes about 18 months. Because you will be wearing them for some time, it is highly beneficial to reduce any risk of dental problems and get the most out of your treatment.
The following are some tips to help:
Brush your teeth gently and carefully around the braces
Floss or use an intraoral device to more thoroughly clean around the braces and between your teeth
Maintain dental appointments for checkups and adjustments
Avoid foods that can cause problems with your braces such as sticky lollies or certain raw vegetables that can get stuck in the wires
