The Treatment Process

We are always thrilled to welcome a new patient to Central Coast Orthodontics, with or without a referral. Beginning your journey towards a great smile can be an exciting time for many, but it is not unusual to be a little nervous. To help with this, we have explained below what happens during your treatment so that you know what to expect.

The first visit

The purpose of your first visit is to simply get to know each other. When you arrive, you will be welcomed by our friendly staff who will collect some initial information. From there you will be taken into the clinic where our Orthodontists will assess your teeth and bite as well as arrange for some records to be taken (e.g. photographs). Dr King or Dr Deall will discuss your alternatives and develop a detailed plan to suit your needs. Costs and payment plan options can also be discussed in detail.

If, at this first visit, the decision is made to keep you (or your child) under observation for the time being, an appointment will be made for the future so that we can keep the teeth and bite under review. This will help us not only choose the best timing that will give you the optimal result, but also make sure your teeth and bite do not get worse in the meantime.

Starting Treatment

If you are ready to commence treatment, usually your second visit is when your it will actually begin. This is often one of your longer visits and is when your orthodontic appliances are fitted (eg aligners, braces or plate). We will give you all the instructions you need to look after your appliance and then your journey has begun! Hooray!

After treatment

After your treatment is complete and your appliances have been removed, you will move into a phase called ‘retention’. This is a really important phase as we don’t want all your hard work to be undone! You will normally have been given either fixed (glued in) or removable retainers which are designed to hold the teeth in their final position. These will be checked periodically to make sure they are fitting well and clean.
