What to Expect When Getting Your Braces Off?
Are you counting down the days until your braces come off? Let’s talk about what happens next and how to make the most of your new smile!
Hi, I’m Liz, one of the oral health therapists here at Central Coast Orthodontics. Today, I’m here to guide you through what to expect when you get your braces off.
Firstly, if recommended by your orthodontist, we will bond your fixed wire retainers to the back of your upper and lower front teeth. These discreet retainers are securely attached to your teeth to ensure they stay in their new position, and in conjunction with removable retainers, prevent any unwanted shifting over time.
Once your wire retainers are in place, it is time to remove your braces.
Removing your braces is quick and painless. We use special tools to gently remove the brackets and wires then we’ll carefully remove any remaining adhesive / resin (whatever word you want to use).

Next, we’ll take a digital scan of your teeth for your removable retainers, which are essential for keeping your teeth in their new position. Your retainers will help maintain your beautiful smile, so it’s important to wear them as directed.
We’ll fit your removable retainers a few weeks later, then schedule follow-up appointments to ensure everything is on track and check your retainers. Remember, keeping up with good oral hygiene and wearing your retainers as instructed are key to maintaining your results.
Getting your braces off is an exciting milestone, and we’re here to celebrate it with you! If you have any questions about what happens next, feel free to ask at your appointment or contact the practice anytime. We can’t wait to see you enjoy your new, confident smile.
